Design with Intent – 101 patterns for influencing behaviour through design

Click here to read the whole document.

In this document you will find a lot of ideas for how to influence behavior via design. For our project, pay special attention to the following sections:

Architectural Lens: This is about using the arrangement of physical space to create obstructions, suggestions, and incentives for altering behavior.

Ludic Lens: This is all about using the dynamics of games to encourage specific behaviors.

Perceptual Lens: The Perceptual Lens shows how to use perceptual psychology in order to influence the way someone understands and interacts with a system. Mostly visual examples, but other things like sound and smell can be used effectively as well.

Security Lens: The Security Lens works within a “security” worldview, and treats undesirable behavior as something that can be deterred by design.

Please read these sections, and discuss them with your group. I think you will find them to be extremely useful in developing the approach to your scenario.
